I have rehabbed many trolleys, but this Porter trolley is among the most beautiful I have worked on, or seen. The stunning lines and patterns in the design are the best of industrial artful craftsmanship from the 1800's. This trolley is a museum piece reflecting the industrial and agricultural pride of the 1800's. In addition, it has been worked like a dog and bears the scars of it's hard life. The trolley is remarkable in many respects. It is a wood track trolley, which was the predecessor of steel track trolleys. While many trolleys will have an 1800's patent embossed on them, the manufacture date could be 50 years later. Wood track trolleys were obsolete by 1900, so you know the wood track trolley was manufactured in the 1800's. Although over 100 years old, the trolley has an amazing amount of original silver paint remaining. All wheels and the swivel turn properly. As buyers and watchers of my trolley auctions are aware, unless there is just cause, I never sell a trolley with flaws. This trolley has flaws which I would not normally tolerate in a trolley I sell. The just cause for this trolley is it's stunning good looks. I fell in love with it when I saw it several days ago in an Amish scrapper's storage building here in southwest Wisconsin.
